Just finished building my Chris Craft 1938 27- foot triple deck cockpit barrelback. See link to the post I made earlier when I starated to build the boat.
I was extremely pleased as I was able to finish it just in time to present it as a gift to my friend, Neil Sheer, for the occasion of his 78th birthday.
The model is a beautiful model with a beautiful display kit. I used my own base for the boat in order to enhance the overall look. To those who do not know a lot about model boat building, this model has what is called, ”double planking” of the hull.
The first layer is built in order to create the hull and the 2nd layer on top creates the outer layer and is done with a nicer wood to enhance the beaty of the boat. The planking is a tedious effort, as every plank must be individually shaped to fit the hull of the model. In the lower part of the blog, you will see pictures of the different stages of the build, including our inner planks, outer planks and the body of the boat. Also, below you will see different closeups of the boat.
To summarize, I couldn’t be more happier creating this beautiful model as a gift to my dear friend.
